Carolyn Partleton
Dip CD – Craft Design

Born in New Zealand in 1974, Carolyn studied Craft Design at Christchurch Polytechnic before starting a career in fashion design. She has worked in the fashion industry for the past 23 years, as well as teaching and exploring numerous aspects of design and construction.

In 2017, she emigrated to the UK, settling in Somerset with her family.

‘It always comes back to texture for me, either as a starting point, or an end. Embroidery, as a medium, allows me to consider every stitch, tiny as they are.
The detail I can achieve when combining age-old cross stitch techniques with new, sometimes never to be repeated knots of a thread; I feel very privileged watching my pieces come to life.’

Carolyn’s distinctive, skilled, and experimental textile works are a refreshing approach to contemporary portraiture. Other recent projects include tapestry restoration for Wells Cathedral, and a three-year commission creating large panels for new choir seats.

‘One way or another, there is always a needle in hand, threads on the floor, and a riot of colour appearing before my eyes.’

Carolyn is available for portrait commissions. Please contact us for further details and prices.
