[tab:biography] Peter Dickinson
Awarded a 1st BA Hons degree from Chelsea School of Art 1982 – 1985, Peter was selected for Christie’s new contemporaries and short listed for the artist in residence at the National Gallery 1986. He has exhibited internationally and nationally and was selected by Matthew Collings for ‘Partial View’. He has presented lectures and run workshops for Tate, Arnolfini, Newlyn, UWE, Wimbledon School of Art, Multi A and the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institute. He has worked creatively for a number of clients including, Arup, British Museum, Factory Records, IBM, Modern Amazons, A Guy Called Gerald, Justin Adams, Portishead and Beth Gibbons.

He has initiated research at Bath University Engineering Department and assisted with research at Keele University colour research programme and with NESTA at Bath Spa University Education department. He worked for Six Chapel Row Contemporary Art in Bath and was the founding chairman of the Bath Area Network for Artists.1998. He curated ‘In Theory’ which was opened by Lars Nittve, the first Director of Tate Modern and was co-founder of 5x5x5, the artists in schools and galleries programme.

As a curator he has an interest in heritage settings evident in his time as curator of Sherborne House and notably the first contemporary art exhibition in the Stourhead estate for the National Trust, “Beauty and the Beast” which examined the conflict between the classical and the contemporary.

Other notable exhibitions he has curated are: ‘Past Perfect’ addressing the motives for restoration and conservation; ‘The Female Line’ an exhibition of drawings by prominent women artists, which was supported by Jigsaw clothing chain and won an award from A&B for this collaboration; ‘Music’ an exhibition of work inspired by and connected to music (inc’ John Cage and Stanley Donwood); the first solo exhibition of Gavin Turk’s in the South West, ‘Gavin Turk in the House’.

Currently Peter is the lead artist and arts consultant for Crest Nicholson’s Bath Riverside development. He is founder of Abstraktion.org and a contributor to Turps Banana providing interviews with John Hoyland, Sean Scully and Katharina Grosse. He is a member of AIR (Artists Interaction and Representation) and The Association of Art Historians. Peter is also part of the Artbar team that provides monthly talks by art professionals and is the founder of arTag a collection management system, informed by his experience as an artist and curator.
