William Trewartha-Jones was born in 1998 in Callington, Cornwall.

Rooted in environmentalism, his practice is concerned with the impact of humans on nature, with a particular focus on animal agriculture. These themes are frequently represented in his practice through a metaphysical lens. A cow is not just a cow but also the effect of selective breeding, the demand of the meat industry, commodification for fashion. These outward pressures mould the form of the cow and thus become manifest in flesh. The subjects in the images are not surreal then, but instead a reflection of a real aspect of the subject. William states that, to his view, his work is representational.

William’s work is on view at the RWA 173rd Annual Open Exhibition in Bristol, until 3 January 2027.
