Christopher Brown
Christopher Brown was born in London and studied Illustration at Royal College of Art, where he was introduced to (and eventually assisted) Edward Bawden, by his tutor Shelia Robinson. It was Bawden who encouraged him to explore this medium.
In 2024 Christopher curated an exhibition at The Higgins Bedford “Edward Bawden and Me” in which he asked 30 artists, designers, illustrators to respond the Bawden archive at The Higgins.
During his career, Christopher has exhibited at The Royal Academy and the Victoria & Albert Museum and worked extensively within design and publishing clients include St Judes, The Folio Society, Gails Bakery, Interiors, Penguin, Faber, The National Trust, English Heritage and The Museum of London.
In 2012 Merrell published ‘An Alphabet of London’ and he is currently working on ‘An Alphabet of England’. 2025 will see the launch of a new design for St Judes Fabrics.
