I make rag rugs in the traditional way, hooking strips of cloth (recycled clothes) through hessian backing. My work returns to various themes, including costume, words that are uplifting, and portraits. This rug is my interpretation of an Egyptian Coffin Painting. A wealthy person would commission an artist to paint the lid of their coffin, reflecting how they would most like to be remembered, when they were at their most beautiful.
